Breast Enhancement

By Dr. Shane Seal

A breast enhancement is all about looking and feeling your absolute best. Patients may choose to have a breast enhancement because they find their breasts too small, too big, or asymmetrical. This can happen due to breastfeeding, pregnancy, or as a part of the natural aging process.

Breast enhancement is one of the most popular procedures performed by Dr. Shane Seal and one of the most commonly performed procedures worldwide. After the initial consultation, Dr. Seal will work with you to find the treatment plan that works best for you.

Dr. Seal offers a wide range of breast enhancement procedures including breast lift, breast augmentation and breast reduction.

BREAST AUGMENTATION

By Dr. Shane Seal

Breast augmentation or “augmentation mammoplasty” is a procedure that aims to increase the size of the breasts with the use of silicone implants. These implants can be placed under the breast tissue or under the chest muscles. The first step during the consultation is to identify your goals and to select an appropriate sized implant to help reach those goals. Our nursing team and Dr. Seal will see you for multiple sizing appointments before settling on a final size.

Clients often get breast implants to help:

How it works.

A breast augmentation involves placing an implant through a small incision in the breast fold. This incision is well-hidden in this area.

The implant can either be placed above or below the muscle. The area of placement often depends on the client’s overall goals, the client’s unique anatomy and the size of implant chosen. Dr. Seal will discuss both options with you during your consultation.

BREAST LIFT

By Dr. Shane Seal

What it is.

BREAST LIFT
A breast lift – also known as a mastopexy – is a surgical procedure that aims to restore the shape and symmetry of the breasts. Clients often seek out a breast lift when their breasts sag or their nipples point downwards (also called ptosis) as a result of things such as pregnancy/breastfeeding, weight changes, ageing or genetics.

How it works.

A breast lift removes excess skin from the breasts to correct sagging. This procedure will raise the position of the nipple and areola and oftentimes, will also reduce the size of the areola.

Dr. Seal chooses the incision type on an individual client basis. The incision most commonly used is called the “lollipop”, which creates an incision around the areola and vertically down from the areola to the crease of the breast. Anchor incisions can also be used for those who have significant sagging. Scars are hidden by bras/bathing suits.

This procedure alone will not significantly change the size of the breasts, however, it is often done in combination with a breast augmentation or a breast reduction. If done in combination with another procedure, surgery often takes place in a hospital under general anesthesia.

BREAST REDUCTION

By Dr. Shane Seal

What it is.

BREAST REDUCTION

Large breasts can cause back, neck and shoulder pain as well as skin irritation. Women with large breasts can be self-conscious and experience discomfort when exercising and may have difficulty finding clothing that fits properly. Breast size can increase due to weight gain, pregnancy and breastfeeding, or menopause.

Breast reduction surgery accomplishes several goals. It decreases the size of your breasts, lifts and reshapes them, decreases the size of the areola, and moves the nipples to a higher position. These changes can relieve your physical discomfort, while also improving the appearance of your breasts. Most women with large breasts feel more comfortable and confident following a breast reduction.

**If you are interested in having a breast reduction, please have your family physician fax a referral to Dr. Seal at (709) 754-8262. A consultation appointment will then be made for you to see Dr. Seal in hospital as this is an MCP-covered service. Dr. Seal does not perform breast reductions in the private clinic.

How it works.

A breast reduction normally involves creating an anchor incision around the areola, vertically down to the crease of the breast and then horizontally across the crease. From there, the excess breast tissue, skin and/or fat is removed to reduce the size of each breast appropriately. Based on the new shape and size of the breast, the nipples and areolas are then repositioned to achieve a natural and symmetrical look.
